The PrePeat Will Repeat Via Sheet Heat

Written by Justin Dauer  |  Awaiting comments

The The PrePeat RP-3100, an ultra-green printer (omg…the case is green too!) from Japanese manufacturer Sanwa Newtec, prints without ink, toner, or paper. It can reuse a single PET plastic sheet up to 1,000 times (black & white-only), removing previous output and cleanly imprinting new data each time. For a cool $5,600 (and $3.35 per plastic printer sheet), you too can be Captain Greenpants.

You know what really grinds my gears? Urinals without that divider thingy between them (a little privacy goes a long way, man). Also, when I think concept designs are actually real. The Linos Portable USB vinyl player from Charlie Pyott is a compact wonder that would facilitate jamming to your records sans turntable. Beautiful form and function on this concept. Make it in meatspace, please.

The arrow is probably the oldest and most basic of graphic symbols. From the paintings of Klee to the iconography used on today’s iPod, here’s a great read on the symbolic pointer by Phil Patton.

The timepieces from Tokyoflash typically don’t appeal to me (even though I can appreciate their crazy-ass innovation). This new offering is quite typically crazy-ass, however can’t tell time for squat; most likely because it’s not a watch. The Escape C, their first consumer electronics gadget, lets you stream stereo audio from your Bluetooth-capable MP3 player so you can listen to your tunes and accept phone calls simultaneously.

The bondi iMac-looking Mu Space concept from designers Yuan-Hao Hsu & Lin Tzu Hsuan is a portable, MP3-playing, sleep-facilitating system. Simply unzip the side compartment, unfurl the relaxation mat, lay your weary head down on the fluffy pillow, and let your Raffi tunes lull you to sleep.

And So It Begins

With the announcement of the iPad, a whole new world of cases and protection for the device has presented itself. I’m a big iPhone case whore myself (with the Switcheasy Colors still my favorite), so this type of development intrigues me greatly. Griffin already has a line of iPad cases available, including the FlexGrip (pictured above), Elan Passport and Sleeve, and the Jumper. As with most iPhone cases, my main protection gripe applies here, too: why doesn’t anyone ever protect the home button? (except for you, my dear Switcheasy Colors case).

With many months of speculation, rumors, and guessing put to rest, Steve unleashed the iPad upon planet Earth today. What is an iPad? A Kindle on steroids? An iPhone without the phone? A MacBook lite? Well, beyond a tampon joke-maker’s dream, it’s a little bit of all of those. Entry-priced at $499, it comes with Wi-Fi and/or 3G, a 9.7-inch LED touch display, and Apple’s 1GHz A4 custom-designed, high-performance, low-power system-on-a-chip. The feature list covers the full capabilities best.

Sorry for the non-update yesterday, folks, but my dry, bony little fingers were too nervous to type in anticipation of today’s APPLE “LATEST CREATION” EXTRAVAGANZA! With some claiming to already have photos of a late-production Apple tablet, that mythical product announcement seems like a shoe-in. Although, wouldn’t it be funny, after all this mega-hype, if the tablet didn’t even exist? …No? Not even a little? In any case, stay tuned to live coverage from the event to get the latest as it happens!

Yo Nexus One, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish making headlines, but the iPhone is busy SAVING LIVES.
