WordPress 3.0 has been released! Improvements include a new lighter admin interface, contextual help on every screen, 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, and bulk updates so you can upgrade 15 plugins at once with a single click. Download it now or one-click upgrade via your admin panel.
WordPress 2.9 is available for (one-click) upgrade via your admin interface or this link right here. Some highlights of the upgrade include a global undo/”trash” feature, a built-in image editor, batch plugin update and compatibility checking, and easier video embeds.
The awesome people at WordPress very recently put a compatibility meter in place on an individual plugin’s page. It’s an immediate visual indicator if you’ll have problems with your particular install version. To quote:
When viewing a plugin in the directory, select a WordPress version and a plugin version from the drop-downs. If there has been feedback about this WordPress / plugin version combination, we’ll show you what percentage of responses marked that combination as compatible vs how many marked it as incompatible.
